Droppers can sit a board improvement exam: improving one or more subjects can get you to 75%, but the top-20-percentile route needs improvement in all subjects. You can still take JEE without meeting it.

JEE Main: you can appear in the year you take Class 12 and the two years after it, with two sessions a year, so up to six attempts. JEE Advanced: a maximum of two attempts in two consecutive years. Droppers should plan both JEE Advanced attempts from their first year.
