Agriculture Admissions 2027: Frequently Asked Questions
No. CUET (ICAR-UG) fills ICAR's all-India quota: 20% of seats in agricultural universities and 100% at IARI New Delhi, NDRI Karnal, IVRI Izatnagar, RLBCAU Jhansi and RPCAU Pusa. The remaining state seats go through each university's own route, such as PAU CET, GBPUAT's entrance or a state CET. Apply to both.
Government: state agriculture department posts through state PSC exams, and agriculture field officer roles in public sector banks. Private sector: seed, fertiliser, agrochemical, food processing and agri-input companies, plus agribusiness and rural finance. Many graduates take a master's degree first, which is needed for research and ICAR scientist roles.
ICAR pays a National Talent Scholarship (NTS) of ₹3,000 per month to students admitted on ICAR quota seats at an agricultural university outside their home state. It is awarded through the university after counselling ends and admissions are verified. Terms are in the ICAR-UG counselling brochure.
B.Sc (Hons) Agriculture covers crop science, soils, plant protection and farm management. B.Tech Agricultural Engineering covers farm machinery, irrigation, soil and water conservation and post-harvest processing. Both are offered on ICAR quota seats through CUET (ICAR-UG); B.Tech usually requires Maths. State seats may use a different entrance, so check each university.
Yes. CUET (ICAR-UG) tests Class 12-level subjects. NEET aspirants can reuse their Physics, Chemistry and Biology preparation. JEE aspirants can also apply, because many universities accept a PCM combination for B.Sc Agriculture and B.Tech programmes. Choose CUET subjects that match the eligibility of your target courses.
Programmes on ICAR quota seats include Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, Fisheries, Food Technology, Dairy Technology, Biotechnology, Agricultural Engineering, Agribusiness Management and Natural Farming. Technology and business-oriented programmes link to food processing and agri-input industries, while core Agriculture keeps the widest choice of government and postgraduate options. Pick by interest and the eligibility you meet.
Either can work. For ICAR quota seats, universities accept combinations such as PCB, PCM, PCA (Physics, Chemistry, Agriculture) or ABC (Agriculture, Biology, Chemistry), but each university lists its own essential subjects. You must have passed in Class 12 the subjects you take in CUET (ICAR-UG). Check the seat matrix in ICAR's counselling brochure before choice filling.
IARI (Pusa Institute), New Delhi, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, G.B. Pant University of Agriculture & Technology, Pantnagar, BHU's Institute of Agricultural Sciences and the three central agricultural universities (Imphal, Jhansi and Pusa). Most fill part of their seats through CUET (ICAR-UG).
After CUET results, ICAR runs online counselling on its counselling portal. You register, fill choices of university and programme, and are allotted seats by merit. There are four rounds plus a mop-up round; upgradation is allowed in rounds 1 to 3 only. Your Class 12 subjects must match the essential subjects for each choice, or the seat is cancelled at document verification.
There is no separate ICAR AIEEA (UG); it was replaced by CUET. Register for CUET (UG) 2027 with NTA and take the subject combination your target ICAR programmes require. After results, register for ICAR's online counselling. Dates are not out yet; they will appear on the CUET (ICAR-UG) page once NTA announces them.
ICAR quota admissions follow the national CUET (UG) calendar, with the exam held in May–June in recent cycles and ICAR counselling after the results. State agricultural university entrances usually fall in the first half of the year. Verified dates for later cycles will appear on the agriculture exams page as soon as they are official.
