Agriculture Admissions 2027: Frequently Asked Questions

No. Many top state agriculture universities (PAU, TNAU, ANGRAU) conduct their own exams or use state CET scores. ICAR AIEEA is primarily for central agricultural universities, IARI, and ICAR institutes. Apply to both national and state exams.

Government jobs: Agriculture Officer, Bank PO (agri background helps), ICAR Scientist. Private sector: Agribusiness, seed/fertilizer companies, food processing. Starting salary: ₹3-5 lakh (private), ₹4-7 lakh (government). Rural development has strong demand.

ICAR AIEEA is significantly easier than JEE/NEET. Competition ratio is lower (around 3:1 for good colleges). Biology-heavy syllabus aligns with NEET preparation. Many NEET droppers transition to agriculture successfully.

B.Sc Agriculture (4 years): Focus on crop science, soil, farming practices. B.Tech Agri Engg (4 years): Focus on farm machinery, irrigation, processing technology. B.Tech requires JEE/state engineering entrance; B.Sc uses ICAR/state agri exams.

NEET + ICAR: High overlap (Biology focus). Prepare NEET primarily, add agriculture-specific topics. JEE + ICAR: Limited overlap. ICAR has Biology which JEE doesn't. Better to choose one path unless comfortable with PCM+B.

Agricultural Biotechnology, Food Technology, and Agribusiness Management have strongest growth. Traditional specializations like Horticulture and Dairy Technology offer stable government jobs. Organic farming is emerging with premium market demand.

Biology (PCB) is required for B.Sc Agriculture at most universities, including ICAR institutes. Some universities accept PCM students too, but Biology is strongly preferred. Students with only Maths and no Biology may not be eligible for ICAR AIEEA — confirm eligibility with your target college before applying.

IARI (Indian Agricultural Research Institute), New Delhi — India's premier agri institution. Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana. Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Coimbatore. G.B. Pant University, Uttarakhand. Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and the 3 Central Agricultural Universities. Rankings matter for placements and research exposure.

Yes. State governments recruit Agriculture Development Officers (ADO) and Agriculture Supervisors through state PSC exams — B.Sc Agriculture is the direct qualification. NABARD, RBI, and public sector banks have agriculture officer roles. The Agricultural Scientist Recruitment Board (ASRB) recruits for ICAR positions with just a B.Sc.

ICAR AIEEA is conducted by NTA (National Testing Agency). Registration typically opens in March-April on the NTA website, with exams in June-July. The exam is CBT (Computer-Based Test) covering Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Maths, and Agriculture. Keep checking the official NTA/ICAR website for the exact notification — apply as soon as registration opens to avoid last-minute issues.

Agriculture admissions through CUET (ICAR) follow the national CUET calendar, with notifications typically released in February–March and exams in May–June. State agricultural university exams generally follow the same first-half-of-year window. The 2028 and 2029 cycles are expected to repeat this pattern — bookmark this page for verified dates as soon as they are official.
