BBA & Management Admissions 2027: Frequently Asked Questions
The main BBA and integrated-MBA tests are IPMAT (IIM Indore), IPMAT Rohtak, JIPMAT (IIM Bodh Gaya and IIM Jammu, run by NTA), NMIMS NPAT, Symbiosis SET, the Christ University BBA entrance and IIM Bangalore's online BBA test. Many universities also admit to BBA through CUET UG. Each has its own form and fee, so most aspirants register for several.
IPM is a five-year programme at an IIM that you join straight after Class 12: all five years are spent at the IIM, with three foundation years followed by two years at the MBA level. At IIM Indore, students may exit after three years with a Bachelor of Arts (Foundations of Management). Entry is through an aptitude test (IPMAT or JIPMAT) and a personal interview. Each feeds different IIMs. IPMAT Indore is conducted by IIM Indore, and IIM Ranchi also uses its score. IPMAT Rohtak is IIM Rohtak's own test. JIPMAT is conducted by NTA for IIM Bodh Gaya and IIM Jammu. The papers differ too: Indore includes a short-answer maths section, Rohtak adds logical reasoning, and JIPMAT has a data interpretation and logical reasoning section. You can apply to all three.
In the latest cycle, IPMAT Indore and JIPMAT accepted students who had passed Class 12 in the previous two years or were appearing that year, and IIM Rohtak also accepted those appearing. IIM Rohtak also required 60% in Class 10 and 12 (55% for SC/ST/PwD) and an age limit of 20 (25 for SC/ST). IIM Indore set a birth-date cut-off with 5 years' relaxation for SC/ST/PwD. JIPMAT accepts Class 12 in any stream, and IIM Bodh Gaya and IIM Jammu may add their own criteria. Check each admission notice before applying.
The latest IPMAT Indore paper had three sections: Quantitative Ability (MCQ), Quantitative Ability (short answer) and Verbal Ability, with 40 minutes for each. Every question carries 4 marks and a wrong answer costs 1 mark, except in the short-answer section. Shortlisted candidates face a personal interview, and the final merit list weights the aptitude test at 65% and the interview at 35%.
JIPMAT is a 150-minute computer-based test in English with 100 multiple-choice questions: 33 on Quantitative Aptitude, 33 on Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning, and 34 on Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension. Each correct answer earns 4 marks and each wrong answer loses 1. NTA conducts it for IIM Bodh Gaya and IIM Jammu, and both institutes then run their own admission rounds.
NPAT has 120 questions in 100 minutes across Quantitative, Logical and Verbal Reasoning, with no negative marking. You can take one main attempt and up to two retakes within the testing window. SET General is a 60-question, 60-minute test covering General English, Quantitative, General Awareness and Analytical & Logical Reasoning, also without negative marking. You can sit it on both test dates, and your higher score counts.
Most open in the first half of the year. In the latest cycle, Christ University started its first round in October and NPAT opened in January. IPMAT Indore and IPMAT Rohtak opened in February for tests in May, and SET closed in April for tests in May. JIPMAT opened in April for a June exam, and IIM Bangalore's BBA test followed in July. Yes, at many universities. Universities that take part in CUET UG, including many central universities, use its scores for their undergraduate courses, BBA and BMS among them where offered. The subjects each one requires vary. IIM Bangalore's online BBA also accepts CUET (UG) General Test scores alongside its own entrance test. The IIM IPM programmes use IPMAT or JIPMAT, not CUET. The aptitude test is only the first stage. Shortlisted candidates are called for a personal interview, and the final merit list combines the scores. IIM Indore weights the aptitude test at 65% and the interview at 35%. IIM Rohtak uses its aptitude test (55%), the interview (15%) and Class 10 and 12 marks (30% combined). Seats follow Government of India reservation rules. Each IIM publishes its weights in its admission notice.
These exams follow a steady annual cycle. IPMAT notifications have come out in early February for tests in May, JIPMAT in April for a June exam, NPAT registration has run from January to May, and SET registration has closed in April.
