There is no fixed score. Closing ranks shift every year with paper difficulty, seat matrix and category. To qualify you need the 50th percentile (40th for SC/ST/OBC, 45th for UR/EWS PwBD), but a government MBBS seat needs a rank far above that. 15% of seats in state government colleges form the All India Quota (AIQ), open to candidates from any state and counselled by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). MCC also fills 100% of seats in AIIMS, JIPMER, deemed universities and BHU/AMU, plus ESIC AIQ seats. The remaining state-quota seats go through your state counselling authority. Register for both to maximise your options.
All MBBS seats in India are filled on NEET UG rank. Deemed universities: 100% of seats, including the 15% NRI quota, are allotted by MCC. Private colleges (non-deemed): seats are allotted by the state counselling authority. There is no separate application route, so ignore agents promising "direct admission". MCC asks candidates to register themselves, not through any agent or third party.
NEET UG is normally held in May, with results about a month later. The 2026 exam was re-held, which pushed that cycle back. MCC counselling then runs four rounds (Round 1, 2, 3 and a Stray Vacancy round) alongside state counselling, and you join college after allotment. For live 2027 dates, see the NEET UG page.
Yes, within limits. Under MCC's current rules, a Round 1 seat has a free exit, and choosing "Float" keeps you in line for an upgrade in the next round. From Round 2, not joining an allotted seat forfeits your security deposit. A Round 3 seat cannot be resigned and bars you from further rounds. State rules differ, and rules can change each year, so read every bulletin before you lock choices.
No. Since 2020-21, MCC has counselled 100% of AIIMS MBBS seats and JIPMER seats on NEET UG rank. There is no separate AIIMS or JIPMER MBBS entrance exam, so your NEET rank decides eligibility for every MBBS college in India.
Exam day: the NTA admit card plus everything it lists, such as photos and a valid photo ID. Follow NTA's dress-code advisory. Joining an MCC seat: allotment letter, NEET admit card and rank letter, Class 10 certificate (date-of-birth proof), Class 12 certificate and marksheet, 8 passport photos, photo ID (Aadhaar, PAN, driving licence or passport), and category or PwBD certificates if applicable. Carry originals plus attested copies.
There is no upper age limit. You must be at least 17 by 31 December of the year you take NEET UG. You also need Class 12 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English. Indian citizens and OCIs planning to study MBBS abroad must also qualify NEET UG.
Fees vary widely by college and state. Under the NMC Act, 2019, the National Medical Commission frames fee guidelines for 50% of seats in private colleges and deemed universities, and it issued them in February 2022. Fees for other private-college seats are fixed by each state's fee regulatory committee. MCC does not set fees. Check the current fee in the state or MCC counselling documents before you lock choices.
Possibly, but check the NMC rules first. You must qualify NEET UG. To practise in India, NMC's 2021 FMGL Regulations require a course of at least 54 months taught in English and a 12-month internship at the same foreign institution. You then need to pass the FMGE screening test (conducted by NBEMS) and complete a 12-month supervised internship in India. Verify a university's eligibility on nmc.org.in before you pay.
Not until NTA publishes each year's notice. In recent cycles, NTA opened NEET UG applications in February for an exam scheduled in May. The same NEET score is used for MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and some B.Sc Nursing seats. Nothing is final until it appears on neet.nta.nic.in.
