University Admissions 2027: Frequently Asked Questions
You can choose up to five subjects in CUET UG, counting languages and the General Aptitude Test. For DU, pick exactly what your target programmes need, and note that the CUET subjects DU uses for your merit score must be subjects you passed in Class 12. Check DU's programme-wise eligibility before you register, then lock subjects on the CUET UG page.
At Delhi University, seats are allotted solely on CUET scores. Class 12 marks are checked only for minimum programme eligibility and used to break ties (best three, then best four subjects). Other universities set their own rules, so read each one's admission bulletin.
DU admits through the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) in three phases: apply to DU on its portal, fill your programme and college preferences after CUET results, then allocation-cum-admission rounds. Your programme-specific merit score is calculated from your CUET UG scores. Registering for CUET does not register you with DU; you must apply separately.
Be ready by early January. For the 2026 cycle, NTA ran the CUET UG application in January, earlier than in past years, with exams in May. Registration is only on cuet.nta.nic.in. The fee depends on the number of subjects (₹1,000 for up to three subjects for General candidates in 2026). Live 2027 dates are on our CUET UG page.
Yes. One CUET UG score is used by all participating universities. However, NTA does not prepare merit lists: each university runs its own application, merit list and counselling, so you must register on each university's portal after results. Apply to several across a range of cutoffs for safe options.
Largely, yes. CUET domain subjects follow the NCERT syllabus, so board preparation covers most of it. Extra work is needed for the General Aptitude Test (general knowledge, current affairs, reasoning and basic maths) and the language test (reading comprehension and vocabulary). Practise timed CUET papers alongside boards, since the exam follows in May.
Many private universities admit through their own entrance tests or Class 12 merit, such as LPU (LPUNEST) and Christ University, and some state universities still admit on merit. Central universities, however, admit through CUET, so missing it usually means waiting a year for them. Browse alternatives on the university exams hub.
CUET UG scores are used by all central universities, including BHU, JNU and the University of Allahabad, plus a long list of state, deemed and private universities and other government institutions. NTA publishes the current list by category on cuet.nta.nic.in, and it changes each year, so check it before choosing subjects.
CUET covers almost all undergraduate programmes: BA, B.Com, B.Sc, BBA, B.Voc and more, depending on the university. In CUET you may pick subjects regardless of your Class 12 stream, but each university applies its own programme eligibility, which can require specific Class 12 subjects. Check that first, then choose CUET subjects to match.
CUET UG offers 37 papers: 13 languages, 23 domain subjects and a General Aptitude Test. You can choose up to five. Each paper has 50 compulsory questions in 60 minutes, with +5 for a correct answer and −1 for a wrong one. It is a computer-based test held over several days and shifts, and scores are normalised across shifts.
CUET UG registration has run between January and March in recent cycles, with exams in May–June. NCET, the NTA test for the four-year ITEP teacher education programme, has its own notification. Expect a similar calendar for the 2028 and 2029 cycles. Verified dates are added to the university exams hub soon after each official notification.
