Pharmacy Admissions 2027: Frequently Asked Questions
B.Pharm (4 years) is broad and industry-oriented: manufacturing, quality control, regulatory work and sales. PharmD (6 years: 5 years of study plus a 1-year internship or residency) is clinically oriented, built around hospital and patient-care pharmacy. Both need Class 12 with Physics and Chemistry plus Maths or Biology. Choose PharmD only if you want a clinical role.
Yes. Most state CETs admit both PCB and PCM students to B.Pharm. MHT CET accepts Physics and Chemistry with Maths or Biology, and Maharashtra candidates must take it for B.Pharm and PharmD. TG EAPCET and AP EAPCET fill B.Pharm and PharmD seats from both the Engineering (MPC) and the Agriculture and Pharmacy (BiPC) streams, so take the stream that matches your Class 12 subjects. Browse the pharmacy hub.
B.Pharm lets you register as a pharmacist and work in production, quality control and assurance, regulatory documentation, hospital or retail pharmacy, and pharma sales. Pay varies widely by employer and city, so treat salary figures on coaching sites with caution.
Yes, as the pharmacist qualification. D.Pharm (2 years plus 500 hours of practical training) is the minimum qualification to register as a pharmacist under the Pharmacy Act, 1948, at age 18 or above. Your state drug control department issues the retail licence, and under the Drugs Rules, 1945, prescription drugs must be dispensed by or under a registered pharmacist. B.Pharm and PharmD graduates can also register.
Start with your home-state route, because government colleges offer the best value. Some states use a CET, such as MHT CET in Maharashtra, where NEET UG scores are preferred for All India candidature B.Pharm/PharmD seats. Some admit on Class 12 merit. BITSAT covers B.Pharm at BITS. Private universities run their own tests, such as CUCET. Browse the pharmacy hub.
Yes. PCI's B.Pharm Regulations, 2014 allow lateral entry into the second year (third semester) for students who passed D.Pharm from a PCI-approved institution. Lateral-entry students complete B.Pharm in 3 years instead of 4. Seat availability and the admission process are set by your state or university, so check its brochure.
Under PCI regulations, D.Pharm, B.Pharm and PharmD all need Class 12 with Physics and Chemistry plus either Maths or Biology. B.Pharm also requires English, and you must be 17 by 31 December of the admission year. Class 12 from open schooling (NIOS or state open schools) is not accepted for B.Pharm. Check the minimum marks in your state's or university's brochure.
D.Pharm (2 years): a diploma and the minimum qualification for pharmacist registration and retail pharmacy. B.Pharm (4 years): a degree that opens industry, regulatory and hospital roles. PharmD (6 years): clinical pharmacy, including a 1-year internship. All three are open after Class 12 with Physics and Chemistry plus Maths or Biology. Each is a distinct path, and higher study options exist later.
NIRF 2025 Pharmacy top-ranked institutes that admit after Class 12 include Jamia Hamdard (New Delhi), BITS Pilani (via BITSAT), Panjab University (Chandigarh) and JSS College of Pharmacy (Ooty). Check each institute's admission page for its B.Pharm route, and use state government colleges via your state CET for the lowest fees.
Use the Pharmacy Council of India website (pci.gov.in). It publishes separate lists of approved institutions for D.Pharm, B.Pharm and PharmD, approved under Section 12 of the Pharmacy Act. Pharmacist registration depends on a qualification from an approved institution, so confirm the college and the specific course before you pay any fees.
Only when each state CET or university publishes its notice. B.Pharm admission runs mainly through state CETs. In the 2026 cycle, MHT CET and KCET opened applications in January for exams in April–May, and AP and TS EAPCET opened in February for May exams. CUCET runs rolling phases. Nothing for 2028 or 2029 is official yet. The pharmacy hub adds verified dates once they are released.
